Bernadette Knowles-Capron has been with the City of Palestine and the Palestine Police Department for over three years, serving in the Finance Dept and as the CID Admin Assistant, before moving into the role as Community Liaison.
As Community Liaison, she is the primary contact for several community programs and events, created with the idea of opening and maintaining lines of communication between the department and the citizens we serve.
As once said by Sir Robert Peel, the founder of modern law enforcement, "The police are the public and the public are the police; the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence." This realization, even from early policing, that relationships between law enforcement and the community are essential to creating a safe community is the inspiration for Palestine PD to be a driving force in 21st Century Policing concepts.
The department is also in the process of establishing an official Neighborhood Watch Program within the City, to aid citizens in the detection and reporting of crime and suspicious activity within their neighborhoods.
